Early in her life, as she began acting as a young actor, the majority of films she produced were not successful. Eventually she became one the most famous actresses in Indian film. After marriage, she experienced a break in her career before re-entering the industry. Recently, she played a prominent performance as a character in Gulaab Gang. The film featured the challenges faced by women across India. Dixit received eight Filmfare Awards out of the fifteen nominations she received. Padma Shri is the fourth highest civilian honour in India. She also has a reputation as a social activist.
